.....type, refinement, desert-like dryness & the nobility of a classic porcelain.”
Izabella Pawelec-Zawadzka: Polish Arabian Horse authority & scholar
The GREAT Arabian Horse Breeding Programs… evolve from BOTH tradition and innovation! Historically… VALLEY OAK ARABIANS… is no different! Over the last three decades, Manny Vierra has nurtured a very distinctive & innovative approach to breeding Arabian Horses. As is with many Breeders… Vierra began his association with the Arabian Horse as a competitor. But… rather than evolve from small shows to major shows… Vierra jumped right into, probably, the most competitive Show environment in North America and, possibly, the World. The “golden era” of the great California Show Scene. And… as with many future Breeders… after achieving significant Show Ring successes, with Horses he had purchased… the next progressive step was to “breed” HIS next generation of Champions. Manny Vierra… was a natural for this! So ended… “Phase One”… of the Vierra progression.
The relocation from the original “back yard” location in San Martin, CA… to the Oak Tree garnished Brentwood area… was “Phase Two” of his well thought strategy of becoming a major “player” on the international scene. The VOA “plan” would be innovative… and impactful!
So began… VALLEY OAK ARABIANS!
About Manny Vierra:
There is a saying that a much valued possession… shows the essence of its owner… and that a man’s strong action… shows the passion of his will!
Manny Vierra… is a man with both passion & character! A man who loves and values his outstanding collection of World renowned Arabian Horses. And… Manny Vierra has the intent to express this, strongly… to the World.
Vierra, by profession, is a “developer”: A designer and builder. The sprawling San Francisco Bay Area has his “patent imprints” on display throughout its affluent landscape. Entire suburban neighborhoods as well as commercial facilities were developed by Vierra’s Company, Capital Builders.
Manny Vierra, by character, is a competitor! Not just a competitor in the sense that he enters competitions to participate; he enters to excel.
Vierra states: “To me… winning is the achievement of great judgment and hard work! Winning… is ultimately gaining the satisfaction of knowing your efforts have been recognized and rewarded universally by the Judges… and, even more importantly… appreciated by your piers”.
While many successful professionals became involved with the Arabian Horse and soon found that the nature of their professional successes related poorly to the character of the Arabian Horse environment… Vierra’s critically regulated profession taught him how to succeed. The nature of construction in the earthquake prone San Francisco Bay Area demanded a need for more technical discipline and adherence to code, than any other… globally. This offered Vierra many qualified insights & proficiencies that correlated exceptionally well with the demanding nature of achieving Arabian Horse success. Whether it be his professional business… or his Arabian Horse “business”… Vierra has a knowledgeable and competitive character that is strongly capable and determined to achieve optimum success.
Developer, designer, builder… Breeder!
Manny Vierra… IS a Breeder!

Few Stallions can be credited with the distinct honor of achieving a threshold foundation of influence on the Arabian Breed globally… more than the great Stallion *EMIGRANT. He not only has infused his superior genetics world-wide… but, the very meaningful blood, that created his existence, has become a common expression within the pedigrees of the elite of the global Arabian Horse Breed.
Manny Vierra understood the traditions of the Polish Breeding Farms… with their high standards for strong functional conformation… displaying great physical strengths & Breed standard athleticism. He understands the Straight Egyptian Breeding Programs… with their ethereal type & great beauty. Both… emphasize specific standards… standards that exemplify the Vierra breeding philosophies.
To carry on the traditions of the most classic Polish & Straight Egyptian “lines”… and to introduce an innovative concept to the uniqueness of this impactful cross… is what the Vierra “philosophy” is all about.
The Vierra Philosophies … have, now, through a dedicated effort, achieved a new level of the VOA evolution of development. This was accomplished with the strategic involvement and eventual acquisition of the legendary and highly revered Polish & European Champion Stallion *EMIGRANT.
The Stallion *EMIGRANT… is the patriarch of one of the most accomplished dam lines of the entire international Arabian Horse Breed; the famous “E-Line”. The final Vierra efforts… will be the implementation of the first & second generation *EMIGRANT influence… on both the VOA Program… and the global Arabian Horse.

In retrospect… Manny Vierra began his direct involvement with the Classic/Pure Polish Horse with his travels to Europe and visits to the three Polish State Breeding Farms: Janow, Michalow & Bialka. The Mares were of superb quality & exceptional beauty… the Stallions were superior! One Stallion… a Polish National Champion & European Champion Stallion and the Chief Sire at Michalow stood out… emphatically! But… the “best”… is rarely, if ever, for sale. Astute business minds understand this! But, aggressive business minds will not accept this. Even though the great *EMIGRANT was NOT for sale… Vierra was determined!
Vierra knew that the Poles would not easily part with their Chief Sire… so, in 2005, because he saw the superior qualities in the *EMIGRANT get… particularly his daughters… he began to purchase Mares of *EMIGRANT blood. And, always confident in his judgment… Mares that would cross well with the great Stallion. Mares like *El Dorada, *Euscera , *Dumka, *Eleuza, *Epima, *Sariene, *Pastyna, *Erotika & *Halima began to arrive at Valley Oak. Soon, he had acquisitioned some of the very best Classic/Pure Polish blood Poland ever bred… and had to offer.
[L-R] Raymond Mazzei of Furioso Farm, Mr. Jerzy Bialobok, Director of Michalow State Stud & Breeder, Manny Vierra.
Vierra, also… had a clear understanding of the successes of the Polish State Breeding Farms’ “Diamond Cross”! Basic… yet tactful & strategic. Impactful… because it has had great success! The philosophy combined two male lines descending from the desert bred Sire IBRAHIM… represented by *Naborr via Bandos and the Egyptian “lines” through the Arabian Breed’s “seed” Stallion Nazeer via *Aswan and his son *Palas. The result on the paternal side was the Polish National Champion Stallion ARARAT… *EMIGRANT’s Sire. On the maternal side… the aristocrat Mares EMIGRANTKA & EMIGRACJA. .
Innovation… is the frame of mind… to strongly step out of the commonly practiced… and into the most challenging “gray areas” of the unknown. Manny Vierra understands this! Even before Michalow & Janow utilized the blood of the Straight Egyptian Stallions *Laheeb and *Al Maraam… Vierra bred to the *Laheeb son and World Champion Stallion *Al Lahab. Vierra saw the possibility of producing the very best qualities of both the Polish & Egyptian Programs.
With the growing necessity to breed the internationally competitive Arabian, Vierra has studied the programs of the Polish State Breeding Farms. So… to further his progress... in building the VOA Programs, Vierra partnered in and supported the lease and importation of two significant Stallions. Vierra’s interest in *Laheeb & *Al Maraam began with his use of the*Laheeb son *Al Lahab while he was being leased by Om El Arab. It strengthened when the Polish State Stud Farms stood both *Laheeb & *Al Maraam for multiple breeding seasons.
Vierra states: “It is well known that the Polish Government has incorporated the very best alternative genetics into their “classic” bloodlines. They have developed a very interesting and successful concept of breeding highly successful Show Horses. “
So… one of the breeding directions Vierra chose, in creating a unique breeding perspective combining both domestic & international bloodlines, was to (in partnership with Furioso Farms) import the Israeli National Champion Stallion *Laheeb IASB. The Straight Egyptian Stallion (sired by the great Imperial Imdal) represented a distinct approach to a new infusion of genetics to the VOA Broodmare band.
There were five significant importations to the United States that were incorporated into the Valley Oak Arabians Breeding Programs. Certainly, the premier importation was that of the legendary Polish Stallion *EMIGRANT.
Prior to that… the lease/importation of the World Champion Stallion *Al Lahab by Om El Arab (2004)was a very useful opportunity for Manny Vierra to integrate his unique genetics into the fast developing VOA International Program. In 2005, Vierra partnered with Raymond Mazzei of Furioso Farms with the importation of the Straight Egyptian Stallion *Laheeb. *Laheeb was the sire of *Al Lahab and also a son of the black Thee Desperado daughter Thee Vision. Two years later, in 2007, Vierra & Mazzei imported the paternal brother to *Laheeb and the maternal brother to *Al Lahab… *Al Maraam.
Between the importations of *Laheeb and *Al Maraam… Vierra, also, purchased the Dutch National winner *Honorrs to bring in a more intense *Padron influence. *Honorrs sired superior quality colts & fillies for VOA… giving the VOA International Program a very strong genetic diversity.
Certainly… the VOA importations cannot be complete without expressing the great honor Manny Vierra received when the Polish Government ‘s wonderful Show Mare *El Dorada was presented for his Breeding use.
The moderate climate & rich farm land of California’s East San Francisco Bay… brought the Vierras to the Brentwood/Discovery Bay area. Ideally suited for nurturing both the Arabian Horse and the rural minded San Franciscan… Brentwood has quickly become the “bedroom community” for the Bay Area.
In 2007, Manny Vierra completed the construction of an Arabian Horse industry impressing facility on a lush parcel of Brentwood area land located just one hour east of San Francisco & 20 minutes from the fast developing Livermore Wine Country. Of Portuguese/Italian heritage & being very familiar with European architecture… Vierra chose the South West Tuscan style of Romanesque architecture with its semi-circular arches, sturdy piers, large towers and decorative arcading. The resulting structure has a symmetrical design adding great appreciation when viewing its impressive size. Multiple archways guide visitors through a large atrium footed with cut Italian granite stone.
The entry to the facilities 2000 square foot visitor’s pergola is shielded by large estate double iron doors artisaned with beveled Flemish glass & custom ironwork.
The exterior view of the long expanse of stabling to either side of the entry is exquisitely constructed of mortared Tuscan field stone accented with hand crafted soldiered wood shutters flanking each of the many exterior windows.
The stabling area is equally impressive! Designed for the very best provisions of equine husbandry… the stables thirty-five spacious stalls are custom powder coated, offer both outside and neighboring stall views for their residents and are fronted by European style doors of Brazilian Walnut planking.
Designed for maximum ventilation, the two paralleling bays of stalls are separated by a 20 foot aisle way extending the full span of the stable. The facility is equipped with a comprehensive security & fire system, including 12 infrared cameras, that allows for the barn to be monitored from all internet accessible computers anywhere around the world. The facility, also, has a well equipped Breeding Laboratory and collection & breeding room.
The composite beauty of the VOA facility is only surpassed by the beauty, quality & splendor of the horses that reside in it and call Valley Oak home.
